No impressions are needed during this treatment, and it is done in a single visit to our office. Your filling can be maintained with proper brushing and flossing.
Procedure: Filling Versus Crown (CAD/CAM)
A crown is used when tooth has been severely compromised by decay or trauma. It can also be used to protect a tooth that has a large filling or has undergone a root canal. It may also be used in cases of severe discoloration that cannot be addressed through teeth whitening treatments.
Unlike a filling, a crown covers the entire tooth down to the gumline. To place a crown, the dentist will need to remove the enamel and take an impression. The crown is then placed over your tooth and is secured with dental cement. At our office, we use CAD/CAM technology to design and create your tooth during one convenient appointment.
In most cases, a crown can last up to ten years, and you will need to continue to brush and floss your teeth as you normally do, since your tooth may be vulnerable to decay at the gumline.
