When you visit Alpine Meadows Family Dental for a routine checkup or even for a problem with your smile, our team will often perform gingival probing and pocket depth measuring. This process is also referred to as periodontal charting.

Procedure: Gingival Probing

Periodontal charting measures the space between your teeth and your gums. Ideally, there should only be between 1 and 3 millimeters of space, and any more than that may be an indicator of gum disease or another problem. This procedure can allow our team to track your oral health and the progression of your gum disease and help our dentist, Dr. Daniel Baird, in creating or adjusting your treatment plan. Dr. Baird may suggest strengthening your home care routine, or a deep cleaning, or he may want to talk with you about a more aggressive treatment for your problem. In many cases, we may only do this once a year, but depending on the health of your gums, we may perform it during each of your visits.

If you have concerns about the health of your gums and you would like to schedule an appointment for periodontal charting in Lehi, Utah, call 801-492-9207 today and speak with a member of our team.
