When you think of damage to your tooth, the first thing that may come to mind is a cavity. And while we treat tooth decay at Alpine Meadows Family Dental, we can offer abfraction composite treatments in Lehi, Utah.
Procedure: NCCL Composite Restorations
An abfraction is damage to the tooth in the area where the enamel meets the cementum, which is the lower, yellow-colored portion of the tooth. An abfraction is the result of stress placed on the tooth through chewing and biting and are particularly common among people who clench or grind their teeth, a condition known as bruxism.
Treating an abfraction is a simple process and done with the application of a composite resin. First, Dr. Daniel Baird will shape the affected area so that the composite will adhere to it and then apply bonding agent. Once the agent has been cured, the dentist will then add the composite resin and shape and polish it so that it blends in seamlessly with your smile. The results will be an improved appearance and further protection against dental caries. If you have noticed an abfraction in your smile and would like to visit our office, call 801-492-9207 and one of our team members will help you plan your visit.
